Runners
The IceFlyer uses the same runner hardware and runners as the DN. My dad has a DN with a set of Sarns bull nose plate runners that I can use when conditions call for plate runners. Because insert runners seem to be the trend in runner design for DNs I wanted to try and build a set that my dad and I can use for both boats.

I got a detailed drawing from a poster of another message board. He believes that these drawings came from a gentlemnan who was the Swedish National Champion. The plans are in Swedish and metric but from what I've learned about insert runners the plans look good. I'm having some 36" inserts made out of 440C using these drawings. I'll let you know how they turn out.

You can download a copy of the plans here.

A few links on insert runners.

Here is a good article by Daan Schutte on insert runners

I was also fortunate to have the opportunity to talk with Ron Sherry, the current DN world Champion, at an ice boat swap meet in Lake Geneva Wisconsin and see some insert runners he was selling for $600 a piece.

Here are a couple of close up photos of his runners.

Ron had two different runners at the swap meet. One used an aluminum stiffner and the other carbon fiber laminated around a foam core.

Both types used carbon fiber laminate to stiffen the body. You can barley perceive the amount of rocker or crown on these fine blades....
